Malnutrition Response Program – Saint-Luc Foundation
/
On December 19, 2025, the Saint-Luc Foundation celebrated Christmas with approximately 250 children enrolled in the Kay O Bwa Nutritional Recovery Program, each accompanied by a parent.
On this occasion, several cultural and recreational activities were organized to bring joy and entertainment to both children and their parents, including songs, dances, children’s games, slam poetry, and sketches. A children’s entertainment group created a festive atmosphere through educational games, the distribution of Christmas costumes and sweets, and photo sessions with Santa Claus.
The Kay O Bwa staff also took advantage of this event to conduct health education sessions for parents, focusing on the basics of balanced nutrition for young children and providing preventive health advice. A hot meal and a drink were shared with all children and their parents during the activity.
To conclude this traditional Christmas celebration dedicated to vulnerable children and their families, each child received a toy as a gift from Santa Claus, and each parent received a food kit to support their household during the end-of-year holiday season.
Now in its 18th year of operation, the Kay O Bwa Program, founded in 2008, provided care to 1,409 children suffering from acute and chronic malnutrition, including 869 boys and 539 girls. Since its inception, the program has treated approximately 15,938 malnourished children aged from 6 to 59 months.
Each month, the center provides free medical and nutritional care to malnourished children, including the distribution of medical peanut butter (ready-to-use therapeutic food) as standard treatment, daily hot meals, and educational workshops for parents to promote healthy and sustainable nutrition practices adapted to their living conditions.
This traditional celebration represents a special moment of joy, solidarity, and togetherness, bringing children and parents together in a spirit of hope. The Saint-Luc Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to the donor @fondazionefrancescarava.org, who has supported the annual Christmas celebration of the Kay O Bwa Nutritional Recovery Program since 2018, for the benefit of vulnerable children and their families.
Hunger and malnutrition remain major challenges in Haiti. According to the United Nations, 51% of the population, representing 5.7 million people, are experiencing acute food insecurity. Despite these difficult circumstances, it is essential to continue offering children moments of joy, dignity, and hope. The Saint-Luc Foundation remains firmly committed to the future and continues to adapt to current challenges.
Together, let us continue to plant seeds of hope and make a difference in the lives of our children.
Merry Christmas and best wishes for a prosperous 2026!
