Condemning the kidnapping of Dr. Edouard and her son

The St Luc Foundation (FSL) was appalled to learn that Dr. Jenny Edouard Pierre-Lys (director of the HIV and community health departments at St. Damien Hospital) and her son Noah Sacha were kidnapped by armed individuals, in the afternoon of Saturday May 1, 2021.

Hereby, we wish to show our solidarity with "NPH Haiti", our Parent Institution, and all the other victims of this crime against humanity. As a result, we inform the Haitian population that the doors of St Luc's Hospital (HSL) and those of its 7 satellite health centers will be closed until further notice. The HSL emergency nucleus will still be available to assist with severe cases.

The St Luc Foundation reminds the kidnappers that its meager funds and those of "NPH Haiti" are intended for the service of the poorest in the country. The FSL demands promptly, the unconditional, safe and sound release of the victims. It will not stop condemning the unbearable climate of insecurity which has raged for too long in the country and which threatens the pursuit of its activities on the ground. Under no circumstances will it have the financial resources to pay the ransom for such a criminal act.

The St Luke Foundation demands from the highest authorities of the country that all measures be finally taken to guarantee the safety of the lives and property of all citizens; and calls for the solidarity of all sectors of society to curb this scourge which besieges us all and which completes our society.
