New building for the Saint Anne School in Cité Soleil

Knowing that education is the foundation of all forms of development, since its creation in December 2000, the Saint Luke Foundation (FSL) has made academic education one of its priorities.

And it is with this same aim that it has built and run more than 30 schools across the national territory. However, it is not immune to the negative consequences of the precarious conditions in which it operates, and the limited resources present in the country. Thus, one of our street schools, Saint Anne, built in the most dangerous slum in the country, and has been considerably damaged by natural hazards.

Unfortunately, the students at Saint Anne School in Cité Soleil have been receiving instruction in a building that is exposed to floods and earthquakes and the school has flooded many times, causing fear among the students during the rainy season.Additionally, the school is not seismically sound. Despite being aware of this situation for many years, FSL has been unable to address it due to a lack of financial means. FSL has taken the initiative to implement the project to build a new building to replace the old construction; to provide better accommodations for the students, the administrative staff, and the teaching staff.

In August 2022, the Outreach Program and the Educational Sector of FSL began construction on a new building for the students at Saint Anne School. This new building will be modern, seismically sound, and will include 10 classrooms of 36 square meters,a cafeteria, an administration room, and a restroom block. It will have the capacity to accommodate 500 students every year. However, the Outreach program and the Educational Sector are currently facing financial challenges to complete the project by the given time.

We hope to complete the construction by July 2023, in time for the start of the 2023-2024 academic year. We ask for your continued prayers and support to provide the children of “Cité Soleil” with a better place to learn.
